Sports Centre Redevelopment

The Government of The Bahamas engaged IBS to provide a comprehensive masterplan and civil infrastructure design for a 450-acre site, including a newly constructed sports stadium donated to The Bahamas by the People’s Republic of China.
In a joint venture with the IBI group, IBS assembled a team of best-in-class specialty firms to provide the full suite of project services, including traffic impact analysis, environmental impact analysis, economic impact analysis, masterplanning, civil infrastructure, and landscape architecture.
Our team also compiled the tender documents and provided tender management services throughout the bid process. In addition, we provided contract administration and construction quality control services for the duration of the construction process.
FIFA Beach Soccer Stadium
Location: New Providence, Bahamas

The Bahamas Football Association (BFA) engaged IBS to manage the design and construction of the region’s first FIFA-certified beach soccer arena to host the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in 2017. IBS partnered with local consultants to provide site and building MEP designs and provided structural designs for the foundation system of the pre-engineered steel arena. Our team packaged the engineering documents, managed the approvals and permitting process for the engineering design package and provided contract administration and construction quality control services throughout the construction process. The project was completed on time and the BFA successfully hosted the Beach Soccer World Cup at the new venue.
IAAF World Relays 2014
Location: New Providence, Bahamas

The Bahamas hosted the first IAAF World Relays in 2014, requiring a $5 million dollar refurbishment of the national stadium and its surrounding facilities to meet IAAF standards and make the facilities ready for the globally-televised event. IBS was retained by the National Sports Authority to manage the works and handle contract administration of the team of subcontractors hired to ready the venue for the relays. Our team managed approximately 15 simultaneous capital expenditure projects, including resurfacing the competition track, site landscaping, hardscaping and new facility construction.
Community Sports Complexes
Location: Abaco, Exuma, and Moore’s Island, Bahamas

The Government of The Bahamas engaged IBS to perform masterplan design services for three sports complexes across the country as part of a major public health initiative to develop national athletic talent and to promote wellness. IBS implemented effective solutions to overcome the logistical, geographical and operational challenges of implementing site works across several unique islands.
Each sports complex site included a synthetic surface 400-meter running track, a 50-meter swimming pool, softball fields, baseball fields, basketball courts, volleyball courts, a beach soccer pitch, beach volleyball court, a tot lot, a multi-use building with a dining terrace, and a public park.
Abaco Sports Complex
Location: Marsh Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas
The Abaco Sports Complex required the masterplan to be designed around an existing school sports facility which needed to remain functional during the construction of the sports complex since construction occurred during the school year.
Exuma Sports Complex
Location: Georgetown, Exuma, Bahamas
The Exuma Sports Complex masterplan presented geographical challenges such as designing around steep terrain, ponds and sinkholes due to the natural and rugged terrain of the Exuma chain of islands.
Moore’s Island Sports Complex
Location: Hard Bargain, Moore’s Island, Bahamas
The Moore’s Island Sports Complex masterplan involved design challenges related to the uncommon topography of Moore’s Island such as steep terrain and a blue hole, geographical phenomena found throughout The Bahamas. Our team addressed operational complexities related to implementing the site works, including scarcity of materials and functional equipment.
